Job description

Principal Consultant / Senior Data Analyst

This is a Full-Time Hybrid position (for Boston, US) with a flexible work environment and great benefits!

About Us

XCentium is an award-winning digital consultancy focused on DX, UX, Content, Commerce, CRM, Service, and Cloud. We build with heart, lead with excellence, and guide with expertise. We primarily work on Azure, Databricks, Salesforce, Sitecore, and Optimizely platforms, and are a leader in Azure, Fabric, Salesforce Commerce, CRM, Service, and MuleSoft. Our team is growing, and we are looking for a highly dedicated individual who can deliver creative, technical ideas that drive change for us and our clients.

About the Role

We are looking for a Principal Consultant/Senior Data Analyst who can bridge the gap between high-level business strategy, data engineering, and delivery.

In this role, you won't just gather requirements—you will actively lead discovery, analyze complex legacy data models, review system integrations, and map out enterprise-level digital transformations. If you have a background in elite tech consulting or internal business innovation, a strong grip on data analysis, and a natural knack for data flows, you will thrive here.

The ideal candidate will be able to take a requirement from analysis through high-level solution design, working with the data architect to scope and estimate the effort.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Cross-Functional Delivery & Project Management: Own the delivery cadence for client engagements - structuring and running standups, deep-dives, and steering calls; maintaining workstream-level trackers and RAID logs (risks, actions, issues, decisions); and driving phase-gate deliverables, status reporting, budget tracking. Escalate and align with the PMO as needed.
  • Lead Enterprise Discovery: Conduct discovery sessions and stakeholder interviews across multiple client departments to define project scope, requirements, and detailed data flows.
  • Map Integrations & Data Flows: Document end-to-end data flows, system integrations, data quality and data governance requirements in complex, legacy enterprise environments (e.g., ERP, WMS, OMS, payment gateways).
  • Domain Analysis: Take ownership of a specific business area's analytics (e.g., marketing, operations, product); coordinate with the Data Architect on solution design.
  • Query & Model Data: Write SQL against modern data warehouse/lakehouse platforms to extract, join, and shape data for analysis; build and maintain reusable data models where needed.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in management information systems (MIS), Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Must Have Consulting Background: 7+ years of professional experience, ideally split between digital consulting firms (e.g., EY, Slalom) and internal corporate innovation or technology solutions roles.
  • Data Analysis expertise: 4+ years of hands-on experience with data analysis, business intelligence, or a related analytical role, against modern data warehouse/lakehouse platforms (Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift etc.).
  • Technical Toolbelt:
  • Requirements Definition and Use Case Creation: Able to write complete requirements that draw on your data analysis experience to drive acceptance criteria and QA tests.
  • Data & Analytics: Solid understanding of data models with specific understanding of enterprise data and schema.
  • Data Flow: Strong documentation skills for creating ER diagrams, process flows, and integration mappings.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; a "business-first, tech-fluent" operator who can easily translate technical requirements for non-technical executives. Excellent requirements gathering, comfort collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, product, and leadership.
  • Location: Ability to work hybrid out of Boston, work at local Boston customer offices as well as travel onsite to customer facilities as needed.

Location: Boston (US), Hybrid, with availability for occasional client travel as needed.

Nice to Have
  • Microsoft Fabric / Power BI / Google Data Analytics certification
  • Proficiency with a BI/visualization tool: Power BI, Tableau, or Looker
  • Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, even without building pipelines directly
  • Cloud platform exposure (Azure, AWS or GCP)
  • Familiarity with enterprise platforms (e.g., Salesforce, SAP, HubSpot etc.)
