Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager (Principal Level)

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager to support client development, new business opportunities, and industry awareness. This role requires prior consulting and FERC experience, focusing on energy projects related to Natural Gas Act-regulated developments, including natural gas transmission and LNG in the United States. A solid understanding of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and energy and environmental policies is essential.

This position can be based anywhere in the U.S. The Principal Project Manager will collaborate with ERM teams to deliver top-tier service to clients, participate in industry working groups, and stay informed on market and industry trends. Responsibilities include managing multiple projects, developing technical proposals, and cultivating new business opportunities.

Projects are diverse and fast-paced, requiring the ability to manage priorities effectively. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, critical thinking, and creativity in research, work approaches, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage large, complex projects, ensuring delivery on time and within budget, including scope, resourcing, and safety considerations.
  • Serve as client point of contact, lead interdisciplinary teams on environmental assessments, permitting, and compliance during construction and operations.
  • Oversee multiple projects across the U.S., including natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, renewables, and carbon projects.
  • Generate proposals, identify new leads, and support business development efforts.
  • Lead meetings with regulatory agencies and engage with agencies like FERC, USFWS, USACE, EPA, and state agencies.
  • Contribute technical expertise on environmental issues and ensure quality control.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Studies, Engineering, Geology, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior consulting experience is required.
  • 6+ years (preferably 10+) in environmental impact assessment and permitting for FERC-regulated projects.
  • Experience managing natural gas and LNG project permitting, including FERC applications.
  • Knowledge of key natural resource regulations (NEPA, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, etc.).
  • Experience with federal, state, and local permitting processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and technical report writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Salary range is approximately $129,195 – $152,500 annually, with potential bonuses. ERM offers comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid leave.
