Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager (Principal Level)

ERM seeks a Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager to support client development, new business, and industry awareness. The role requires prior consulting and FERC experience, focusing on energy projects involving permitting and compliance for Natural Gas Act-regulated projects, including natural gas transmission and LNG in the U.S. A solid understanding of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and energy/environmental policies is essential.

This position is remote, based anywhere in the U.S. and involves managing multiple projects, engaging with regulatory agencies, and supporting business growth. The candidate should demonstrate initiative, critical thinking, and effective communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Manage large, complex projects on time and within budget, overseeing scope, resources, and safety.
  • Lead environmental impact assessments, permitting, and compliance during all project phases.
  • Oversee multiple natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, renewables, and carbon sequestration projects nationwide.
  • Develop technical proposals, generate leads, and maintain client relationships for repeat business.
  • Lead meetings with agencies like FERC, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, EPA, and others.
  • Contribute expertise on environmental issues, impact assessments, and quality control.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or higher in Environmental Studies, Engineering, Geology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Prior consulting experience required.
  • 6+ years (preferably 10+) in environmental impact assessment and permitting for FERC projects.
  • Experience managing natural gas and LNG project permitting, including FERC applications.
  • Knowledge of key environmental regulations (NEPA, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, etc.).
  • Proficiency in MS Office and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.

Salary ranges from $129,195 to $152,500 annually, commensurate with experience, plus potential bonuses. Benefits include health insurance, 401(k), paid leave, and more.
