Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager (Principal Level)

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant, Environmental FERC Project Manager to support client development, new business, and industry awareness. This role requires prior consulting and FERC experience, focusing on energy projects related to Natural Gas Act-regulated development, including natural gas transmission and LNG in the U.S. The candidate should understand FERC and energy/environmental policy complexities and have broad relevant experience.

The position is remote, anywhere in the U.S., and involves collaborating with ERM teams to deliver high-quality services to clients, participating in industry groups, and staying informed on market trends. Responsibilities include managing multiple projects, client engagement, regulatory interactions, and business development.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Managing large, complex projects on scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring safety and risk management.
  2. Leading interdisciplinary teams on environmental impact assessments and compliance during project phases.
  3. Handling multiple natural gas, LNG, hydrogen, renewables, and carbon projects concurrently.
  4. Generating proposals, identifying leads, and maintaining client relationships.
  5. Engaging with regulatory agencies such as FERC, USFWS, USACE, EPA, and others.
  6. Contributing expertise on environmental issues and quality control.

Minimum requirements are:
  1. Bachelor’s or higher in relevant fields or equivalent experience.
  2. Prior consulting experience.
  3. 6+ years (preferably 10+) in environmental impact assessments and permitting for FERC projects.
  4. Experience managing large natural gas and LNG project permits.
  5. Knowledge of key natural resource regulations.
  6. Proficiency in MS Office and technical documentation.
  7. Strong communication and attention to detail.
