Job description

The Opportunity

As the Principal Cloud Engineer, you will lead the architecture, automation, and maintenance of our AWS cloud infrastructure. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will ensure that our infrastructure scales efficiently, remains secure, and operates at peak performance. This role requires expertise in AWS services, infrastructure automation, cost optimization, security best practices, and disaster recovery strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and cost-effective AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Automate infrastructure deployment using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
  • Ensure high availability and reliability, including disaster recovery and failover strategies.
  • Collaborate with software and data teams to optimize cloud architecture for large-scale data systems.
  • Implement security best practices, including monitoring, threat detection, and vulnerability mitigation.
  • Optimize AWS costs while maintaining performance and scalability.
  • Stay updated with the latest cloud technologies and improve the environment with new tools and services.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, promoting best practices in cloud operations and architecture.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, respond to incidents, and ensure minimal downtime.

Skillset

  • At least 7 years of experience managing AWS cloud infrastructure at scale.
  • Deep understanding of core AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, etc.) and designing multi-region, scalable architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Proven ability to manage and optimize cloud costs using tools like AWS Cost Explorer and Trusted Advisor.
  • Experience scaling large data systems, including databases and data lakes, across distributed cloud environments.
  • Expertise in disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud security, including IAM, encryption, network security, and threat mitigation.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch, ELK stack, or Prometheus.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, including non-technical team members.

Nice-to-Haves

  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, Security Specialty).
  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation.
  • Experience working in startups or fast-growing tech companies.

Education & Requirements

  • 7+ years designing, implementing, and securing enterprise AWS infrastructure and services.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
