We are seeking an experienced Principal Cable Design Engineer to serve as a technical leader in the design and development of advanced coaxial cable products. This individual will help advance the coaxial cable technology roadmap from initial research and product development through production release, process improvement, and long-term manufacturing support. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced cable engineer who enjoys being hands‑on with product design while collaborating closely with engineering, manufacturing, applications, program management, and sales teams. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in coaxial cable construction, shielding design, materials selection, and cable manufacturing and has the ability to grow into a key Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop new coaxial cable products from initial concept through production release.
- Develop cable constructions, shielding designs, material specifications, and cable/connector attachment designs.
- Optimize electrical, mechanical, and environmental performance while considering manufacturability and cost.
- Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings, specifications, procedures, BOMs, and supporting design documentation.
- Use SolidWorks/CAD and product data management/ERP systems to document and maintain product designs.
- Research new materials, technologies, and design concepts to determine product feasibility.
- Initiate, review, and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for new and existing products.
- Support designs beyond engineering release by partnering with manufacturing and process engineering to address production challenges and identify improvements.
- Identify production sequences, tooling and equipment requirements, manufacturing processes, and test requirements.
- Develop and execute test plans and measurement protocols to characterize coaxial cable performance.
- Support process and equipment improvements related to cable manufacturing.
- Provide technical expertise for customer-funded programs and new product development initiatives.
- Review customer specifications and provide technical input for proposals, quotes, design concepts, and performance requirements.
- Serve as a technical resource for customer‑facing discussions and presentations.
- Collaborate closely with a highly experienced, cross‑functional engineering team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of direct coaxial cable design and/or manufacturing engineering experience; more extensive experience preferred for the Principal level.
- Hands‑on experience with: Coaxial cable construction Shielding design Materials selection Cable and connector attachment design Electrical, mechanical, and environmental performance optimization Strong understanding of coaxial cable Mil‑Specs, industry standards, and customer requirements.
- Knowledge of cable manufacturing processes, equipment, and techniques.
- Experience defining, executing, and analyzing test and measurement protocols for coaxial cable products.
- Strong CAD and drafting skills; SolidWorks experience strongly preferred.
- Experience designing products with manufacturability, performance, and cost targets in mind.
- Experience working with ERP/PDM systems and engineering workflows.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills with the ability to work directly with engineering, manufacturing, program management, sales, and customers.
Preferred Experience
- SolidWorks / CamWorks Visual ERP / SmartViews or experience with comparable ERP systems
- Google Enterprise Experience supporting customer‑funded engineering programs
- Experience serving as a technical lead, project lead, or Subject Matter Expert
