Job summary

Amphenol RF in Danbury, CT is seeking a Design Engineer to join a cross-functional team designing RF coaxial connectors and cable assemblies. The majority of work focuses on customer-specific applications with exposure to various industries and technical challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 0–2 years related experience.

  • Support senior engineers on Level 2 and 3 projects.
  • Model connector components and assemblies in 3D CAD.
  • Perform tolerance studies to verify design intent.
  • Apply RF design concepts to high-performance transmission lines.

We are currently seeking a Design Engineer to work in a cross-functional team to design and develop RF Coaxial connectors and cable assemblies. Most development work is focused on customer-specific applications, with a minority of designs for mass market consumption. Exposure to a wide range of industries and technical challenges. Creativity and 3D visualization skills necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides support to senior engineers for Level 2 and 3 projects
  • Utilize 3D CAD engineering software to model and draft connector components and assemblies
  • Perform tolerance studies to verify that assemblies will meet design intent
  • Apply learned RF design concepts to design high performance transmission lines
  • Work with the RF Engineer to validate and optimize RF performance
  • Work with Applications Engineering to translate customers explicit and implicit requests into design requirements
  • Analyze or facilitate the analysis of mechanical requirements using FEA as required
  • Ensure risk mitigation through prevention and detection means and conduct internal Critical Design Review meetings
  • Create verification test plans and facilitate/perform and document electrical and mechanical testing of prototypes
  • Maintain organized project files
  • Adhere to project schedules
  • Process Engineering Change Orders and New Product Releases
  • Communicate with vendors and internal departments as part of a cross-functional team to move the product design through a phased development process
  • Ensure design for manufacturing and assembly principles are implemented and confirmed by relevant operations personnel
  • Identify to management new novel product innovations for potential IP protection and draft patent declarations when required
  • Ability to travel when necessary
  • Any other duties as assigned
Education/Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with Zero (0) to two (2) years related experience.
