Pure Storage, Inc. is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the HyperScale Build Platform and Tools in Santa Clara. You will define multi-year architecture for build infrastructure, lead high-ambiguity technical work, and raise engineering standards across the Hyperscale organization.

Qualifications

• Significant depth in infrastructure, developer productivity, build systems, or platform engineering.
• Track record of setting technical direction for a platform used by multiple engineering teams and leading multi-quarter initiatives.
• Deep expertise in modern build systems, toolchains, dependency management, and reproducible builds.

Responsibilities

• Own the long-term architecture for build orchestration, systems, and containerized environments across Hyperscale.
• Document architectural decisions on build systems, remote execution, caching, and reproducibility.
• Drive improvements to build speed, reliability, reproducibility, debuggability, and usability in local and CI workflows.
• Tackle large-scale C/C++ build challenges: dependency pruning, linking tradeoffs, toolchain, and sysroot management.
• Diagnose and fix build-graph correctness issues, flaky builds, and regressions.
• Define standards for containerized environments with upgrade paths and lifecycles.
• Collaborate with engineering managers to shape the team roadmap and investments.
• Influence and align tooling direction across Hyperscale and broader org.
• Set operational excellence bar: observability, incident response, capacity planning.
• Establish and use engineering metrics to justify investments and demonstrate impact.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers to raise technical standards across the team.
• Represent the team in design reviews and technical forums as the build infrastructure expert.
• Work from the Santa Clara office in compliance with company policies.
