Job summary

Oura is seeking a Principal Art Director, Product to own and evolve Oura's visual language across illustration, photography direction, and iconography in the Oura App, shaping the next chapter of the user experience.

This senior contributor role leads through craft, collaborating across product design, brand, marketing, and e-commerce to maintain coherence and editorial polish at scale. Hybrid, San Francisco office, 6-month fixed-term with an emphasis on quality, systems thinking, and leadership.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of design experience with senior contributor track record.
• Portfolio showing cohesive UI craft and systems thinking across platforms.
• Strong aesthetic point of view with openness to collaboration.
• Deep fluency in mobile design patterns, motion, and conventions.
• Proven ability to defend design decisions and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve Oura's product visual language for illustration, photography, and iconography; define principles and quality standards.
• Set photography direction and curation standards for product surfaces; ensure imagery feels human and trustworthy.
• Build and steward illustration systems with clear rules, tone, and governance.
• Collaborate with Product Design and Design Systems to ensure assets support clarity and accessibility in UI.
• Provide rigorous, actionable feedback and mentor teammates and partners.
• Develop clear briefs and review rituals; manage external talent with a freelance-first approach.
