Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Principal AI Software Developer to advance the L-CAP platform for national air traffic operations. You will design and implement microservices, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and deliver AI-enabled software in a SAFe/Agile environment.

The role emphasizes real-time, safety-critical systems modernization, with opportunities to mentor peers and drive performance engineering across distributed services.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience.
• Proficiency in Java or C++ with production software
• Experience designing microservices-based applications
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design
• Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures
• Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps
• Experience with relational & NoSQL databases
• Git and collaborative workflows
• Familiarity with Agile/SAFe frameworks
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
• Experience with performance engineering in distributed services
• Knowledge of API versioning and interface stability
• Experience modernizing legacy software into service-based architectures
• U.S. citizenship required
• Successful completion of background investigations as required by the government

Responsibilities

• Design and develop microservices that form the backbone of the L-CAP platform
• Collaborate with architects to translate designs into robust implementations
• Implement RESTful APIs and event-driven integrations in a hybrid cloud setup
• Integrate with relational and NoSQL databases for data consistency
• Perform performance tuning of distributed services
• Lead code reviews and enforce coding standards
• Mentor junior developers and support their growth
• Troubleshoot complex issues across services and infrastructure
• Contribute to design docs, APIs, and runbooks
• Participate in SAFe/Agile ceremonies and PI planning
• Do performance engineering including profiling and latency analysis
• Maintain interface stability during modernization of legacy software
• Modernize ATC functions into cloud-native services
• Adopt AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity
