Overview

The Cisco Security AI team develops AI products and platforms for Cisco's security portfolio, enabling businesses worldwide to defend against threats and enhance security resilience. We are passionate about making security simple and effective through AI and Machine Learning.

Who You Are

As a Principal Engineer, you will be at the forefront of AI, machine learning, and deep learning research and development. You will design, implement, and evolve AI platforms and products, driving innovation and maintaining our competitive edge. We seek a passionate AI/Data Science Principal Engineer to help translate ideas into prototypes and products.

In this role, you will lead and contribute technically at a director level, involved in ideation, design, development, and testing of new products. You should have strong industry recognition, including patents, publications, open-source contributions, or speaking engagements. You must excel in complex environments, communicate effectively with diverse audiences, and be a key driver of our growth and new ventures.

What You Will Do

• Lead with technical and industry vision, shaping our AI and Data Science strategy.
• Define and design AI-based solutions, assess feasibility, and estimate efforts and risks.
• Drive prototype and MVP development to deliver scalable, maintainable features.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet strategic objectives.
• Mentor and guide AI engineers and data scientists, fostering technical excellence.
• Stay updated on AI and ML advancements and evaluate their impact.
• Promote best practices in coding, testing, and documentation.
• Ensure ethical AI use, focusing on fairness, privacy, security, and transparency.
• Communicate complex AI concepts to non-technical audiences and provide thought leadership.
• Contribute to intellectual property through patents, publications, and presentations.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 15 years of Software Engineering experience, including leadership roles in AI/ML/DL solutions across industries.
• Minimum 7 years of programming experience in Python, Java, or C++, with familiarity in frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
• At least 5 years of developing, training, and deploying AI models in real-world applications.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and ML deployment strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Large Language Models, NLP, Computer Vision, and generative AI techniques.
• Proven track record in developing AI-based products or systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
• Experience with DataOps/MLOps workflows, infrastructure, and tooling.
• Familiarity with Agile and DevOps practices.
• Ability to mentor engineers and stay abreast of innovative technologies.
