The Optum AI Transformation and Strategy team is UnitedHealth Group’s enterprise AI transformation team, leading the development of our enterprise AI strategy and modernization agenda. As a Senior Director of Planning and Strategy, you will support and work hand-in-hand with our Chief AI Transformation and Strategy Officer, together driving the enterprise AI transformation. Your small but highly empowered team will own our AI portfolio focused on high-impact AI initiatives that deliver significant value to our business and those we serve. You will partner with business and technology stakeholders to develop AI/ML strategies for the highest impact opportunities across UnitedHealth Group businesses, including UnitedHealthcare, Optum Financial, Optum Health, Optum Insight, and Optum Rx.

We are seeking a hands-on Security Engineer to join our team. You will play a crucial role in improving our security and vulnerability posture by implementing technical controls and developing reusable security tooling that can be automated and repeated. Additionally, you will write comprehensive documentation and best practices to ensure consistent security standards across the organization. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform gap analysis of security and compliance controls, assess the risks, prioritize, and propose remediation plans
  • Research, propose, and implement technical controls in partnership with other Security and Engineering teams that address existing gaps in security, proactively defend against upcoming threats, and enforce the organization’s security policies
  • Develop reusable security tooling that helps improve the throughput of teams while maintaining a consistent level of confidence in the system security
  • Remediate security configurations and address root issues
  • Implement automated, proactive security checks into the CI/CD pipelines
  • Ensure appropriate network and access controls are in place and actively monitored
  • Continuously improve monitoring and reporting of security and compliance issues, providing clear actions for teams to proactively remediate issues
  • Monitor the security and compliance posture of the organization
  • Develop, document, and communicate security standards and procedures across the engineering teams
  • Advise on secure architecture best practices and design patterns
  • Provide security guidance to engineers and data scientists, and champions good security hygiene
  • Support security incident response as necessary
  • Participate in regulatory and compliance activities as necessary

Qualifications - External

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information security, a similar technical field, or equivalent professional experience can substitute for a degree
  • 6+ years of experience in software development with focus on the Security
  • 3+ years of development experience in IaC using Terraform
  • 2+ years of experience with a scripting language like Python
  • Experience with public cloud service providers (e.g. Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure)
  • Familiarity with industry standard frameworks (e.g. NIST CSF)
  • Basic understanding of networking components and architectures

Preferred Qualification:

  • Advanced knowledge of security automation and orchestration

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
