Job summary

Sage is building AI/ML-powered capabilities to automate data migration into Sage products. As a Principal AI Engineer, you will lead hands-on design and delivery of applied AI solutions in a hybrid setup based in San Jose.

You will work across engineering, product, and domain experts to translate challenges into scalable systems, shaping AI engineering patterns and best practices for migration workflows.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in data science, ML, or AI engineering.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying applied ML solutions.
• Strong software engineering skills for production-grade systems.
• Experience with AI Ops / MLOps practices is desirable.

Job description

Sage is building AI/ML-powered capabilities that help automate and accelerate complex data migration into Sage products. As a Principal AI Engineer, you will lead hands-on design and delivery of applied AI solutions, taking projects from early problem definition through implementation and production deployment in a hybrid setup based in San Jose.

This is a senior role with end-to-end ownership. You will work across engineering, product, and domain expertise to translate customer and implementation challenges into scalable systems, and you will help shape engineering patterns and best practices for applying AI across Sage’s migration workflows.

What you’ll do

• Design and build AI/ML-powered solutions to migrate data from a variety of source systems into Sage products.
• Apply machine learning, data science, and modern AI techniques to data transformation, mapping, classification, reconciliation, and validation.
• Own substantial technical projects end-to-end, covering problem definition, architecture, implementation, and production deployment.
• Independently drive solutions for complex and ambiguous technical problems.
• Build scalable, reliable production systems rather than prototype-only efforts.
• Contribute to infrastructure and operational practices needed to deploy, monitor, and maintain AI systems in production.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and domain experts to turn customer and implementation challenges into technical solutions.
• Help establish engineering patterns and best practices for applying AI across Sage’s migration capabilities.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers.

Key qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, AI, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field from a top-tier university.
• Graduate study or an advanced degree in AI, machine learning, data science, or a related field is desirable.
• Significant hands-on experience building and deploying applied data science and/or machine learning solutions.
• Strong software engineering skills with experience developing production-grade systems.
• Experience with AI/ML infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, or related AI Ops / MLOps practices is desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to independently own and deliver large, technically complex projects.
• Strong understanding of data pipelines, data transformation, and working with large or complex datasets.
• Experience applying modern AI technologies, including LLMs, to real-world business problems.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment with significant technical ambiguity.
