Job summary

Robots and Pencils is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to serve as the technical lead across an agentic AI program. You will own the technical vision, set architecture, and guide large teams through complex design and delivery challenges.

You’ll partner with executives to define the AI roadmap, establish evaluation standards, and ensure the program scales with high quality and velocity in a remote Canada context.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of data science and AI/ML experience with enterprise-scale systems.
• Experience leading multi-team programs and managing senior stakeholders.
• Hands-on with LLMs, prompt engineering, and multi-agent orchestration.
• Strong Python and modern ML stack skills.
• Experience with AWS GenAI offerings and ML platforms.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight of all agentic AI workstreams from framing to operation.
• Define strategy and reference architecture for agentic systems and orchestration.
• Guide delivery across streams, manage dependencies, and maintain quality at scale.
• Establish rigorous evaluation for LLM performance, safety, latency, and cost.
• Align data science, engineering, product and business priorities toward measurable outcomes.
