Job summary

ZoomMate seeks a Principal AI Agent Engineer, Research Engineer, or Applied Scientist to develop its AI Agent System framework and infrastructure, focusing on the agent harness, runtime, orchestration, tool integration, memory, and evaluation layers for downstream ZoomMate products.

The role collaborates with product teams to implement framework solutions, ensuring production-grade reliability at Zoom scale and fluid integration with internal tooling and third-party apps.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production software and/or ML systems experience.
• Hands-on experience building agentic systems using LLMs (tool use, planning, reasoning, memory, orchestration, multi-agent coordination).
• Strong programming fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and system design.
• Fluency in Python and familiarity with Java/Go/TypeScript.
• Experience with agent frameworks and orchestration (LangGraph, LangChain, AutoGen) and with RAG pipelines or vector databases.
• Exposure to LLM post-training/fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, or evaluating agent systems.

Responsibilities

• Designing, building, and improving the ZoomMate agent harness, including orchestration, tool use, sandboxing, memory management, and multi-step reasoning loops for team collaboration.
• Architecting the underlying agent framework and API/SDK surface for easy embedding into Zoom product teams.
• Building and integrating tool-use and interoperability layers (MCP-style connectors, A2A) across Zoom and third-party apps.
• Designing and running evaluations and benchmarks for agent quality (reasoning, tool-use success, latency, cost) and driving iteration.
• Owning full lifecycle of services (design docs, code review, deployment, monitoring, on-call) with production-grade reliability.
• Partnering with product teams to turn integration pain points into shared infrastructure.
• Deeply integrating with Zoom's engineering platforms and internal tooling to accelerate delivery.
• Embedding AI coding agents into workflows and designing tools for agent use.

This position focuses on creating the agent harness, including runtime, orchestration, tool integration, memory, and evaluation layers. These components enable downstream ZoomMate Agent products. The role involves collaborating directly with product teams to implement the framework into practical applications. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering innovative agent experiences while ensuring seamless integration with various platforms and tools.

About the Team

We are a focused team delivering impactful ideas quickly. Engineers are responsible for outcomes from initial design to production across Zoom's products. Small, efficient teams enable quick decisions and rapid iteration. We leverage advanced AI tools like Claude Code and Codex to build agent infrastructure. We integrate infrastructure, research, and product seamlessly, eliminating silos. Our compact, skilled team achieves significant results with fewer resources. Roles are flexible, emphasizing expertise over titles. Whether specializing in backend, research, or applied systems, contributors who build and deploy agentic systems are valued.

Responsibilities

• Designing, building, and improving the ZoomMate agent harness, including orchestration, tool use, sandboxing, memory management, context handling, and multi-step reasoning loops for team collaboration.
• Architecting the underlying agent framework and API/SDK surface, so Zoom product teams can embed ZoomMate Agent capabilities with minimal integration cost.
• Building and integrating tool-use and interoperability layers, including MCP-style connectors and agent-to-agent (A2A) patterns, so agents can act across Zoom's ecosystem and third-party apps.
• Designing and running evaluations and benchmarks for agent quality — reasoning, tool-use success, latency, and cost — and use them to drive iteration.
• Owning the full lifecycle of the services you build — design docs, code review, deployment, monitoring, on-call — with production-grade reliability at Zoom scale.
• Partnering closely with the product teams consuming ChatKit, turning their real integration pain points into better shared infrastructure rather than one-off fixes.
• Integrating deeply with Zoom's engineering platforms, leveraging internal tooling to accelerate delivery.
• Integrating AI coding agents like Claude Code and Codex into daily workflows, embedding that understanding into the design of tools tailored for such agents.

What we’re looking for

• Have 5+ years of industry experience building production software and/or ML systems.
• Show practical experience developing agentic systems using LLMs, including tool use, planning, reasoning, memory, orchestration, or multi-agent coordination, implemented in production or research/prototype formats.
• Possess programming fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and system design.
• Have excellent communication skills and a collaborative, ownership-driven mindset — you'll be building infrastructure other teams depend on.
• Demonstrate be fluent in Python, and comfortable with at least one of Java/Go/TypeScript depending on the surface you're building.
• Have experience with agent frameworks and orchestration (LangGraph, LangChain, AutoGen, or an equivalent), RAG pipelines, or vector databases.
• Possess experience with LLM post-training/fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, or building rigorous agent evaluation frameworks.

Salary Range or On Target Earnings

Minimum:

$206,600.00

Maximum:

$451,800.00

In addition to the base salary and/or OTE listed Zoom has a Total Direct Compensation philosophy that takes into consideration; base salary, bonus and equity value.

Note: Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience.

We also have a location based compensation structure; there may be a different range for candidates in this and other locations
