Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems in Melbourne, FL seeks a Principal or Sr. Principal Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical Systems Responsible Engineer) to join our Air Vehicle Subsystems team. The role is full-time and on-site with up to 10% travel for design, testing, and integration of landing gear and mechanical systems on an advanced aircraft.

The candidate will manage system requirements, collaborate across teams, and provide technical guidance while interfacing with suppliers. U.S.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related STEM discipline with 5 years of relevant experience; OR Master’s with 3 years; OR PhD with 1 year.
Sr. Principal path requires 8 years with Bachelor’s; or 6 years with Master’s; or 4 years with PhD.
U.S. Citizenship and active Secret clearance required; SAP clearance may be needed.

Responsibilities

Develop, design, test, and integrate mechanical systems and landing gear for an advanced aircraft.
Lead hardware selection, placement, preliminary sizing, and integration into varied configurations.
Provide mechanisms design support to drive systems like drive and door uplocks in flight.
Create system requirements, specifications, and supplier SOWs with cross‑discipline collaboration.
Coordinate with multiple engineering teams and supplier management for program milestones.
Document engineering guidance, test reports, and design development materials.
