Job description

We are seeking qualified candidates to assume the position of Principal, Private Equity Value Creation (the “Principal”) on behalf of our client, a global strategy consulting and M&A advisory firm that delivers custom, industry-centric solutions across complex markets (the "Company").

While the Company has decades of experience across a variety of industries and sub-sectors, its core industry groups consist of Automotive & Transportation, Building & Construction, Industrial, Heavy Equipment and Private Equity. Across these sectors, the Company specializes in servicing select middle-market private equity firms and investment banking institutions, industry associations, government groups and Fortune 500 companies.

The Company’s Private Equity vertical, which this Principal will specialize and help oversee, consists of global M&A advisors providing confidence and certainty to private equity firms to de-risk transactions and capture greater value. Highly credible market studies, proprietary market data and analysis, and decades of M&A advisory experience enable the Company to provide best-in-class commercial diligence and industry-driven sell-side support as well as advance post-acquisition growth initiatives. The Company's suite of M&A services help private equity firms address rising competition for deals, close transactions faster, and capture greater value.

This Principal role is a new position within the Company designed to create and build the Company's growing Value Creation sector. As Principal, you will build and lead the Company’s growing value creation services, establishing its market strategy, developing service offerings and team capabilities, and cultivating private equity client relationships to drive commercial due diligence and value creation engagements (e.g., operations, strategy, pricing, AI, etc.). This person will ensure that the Company is “top of mind” within value creation needs for PE firms and portfolios. The Principal will also manage their client relationships throughout deal flow and have oversight of delivery teams to ensure best-in-class client execution. Working closely with other senior members of the Company, the successful candidate will develop and enhance the Company’s existing engagement sourcing efforts and create best practices to further institutionalize and expand the Company’s engagement origination processes for value creation, both pre and post-close initiatives.

The Principal will be highly team-oriented, have an exceptional work ethic, and be passionate about private equity and investment banking business development and the critical nature of this role. The candidate will have the charisma, presence, and communication skills to establish credibility both internally and externally. Striking the right balance between confidence and humility, and high IQ and EQ, the successful candidate will have outstanding interpersonal skills, the maturity to command the respect of intermediaries, C-suite executives, and a track record of building deep relationships. This person will be strategic, driven to win and will present with passion, determination, and a sense of urgency. It is critical that the candidate is resourceful, highly organized, process-oriented, data driven, and tech savvy. In addition, the successful candidate will be intellectually curious and embrace continuous improvement, constantly seeking ways to ensure client satisfaction with Company deliverables.

The Principal will be a critical contributor to new business opportunities for the Company throughout the United States, with an emphasis on developing client relationships in New York City/Northeast part of the United States. The Principal will have an opportunity to live and work from any location, though it is preferred that s/he is located in the New York City area or the Eastern Time Zone.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and growth of Company’s value creation services for financial sponsors and portfolio companies
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships and coverage with a target group of top-tier financial sponsors, including middle market private equity firms, investment banks and related funds domiciled in the United States with a focus of expanding and building the Professional Services offering
  • Facilitate best-in-class client engagement with Company’s Private Equity team members, including oversight of project execution, analysis and final reporting reviews
  • Originate new engagement opportunities including buy-side/sell-side commercial diligence, portfolio company value growth and exit support, with particular focus on pre and post-close value creation
  • Expand and broaden the Company’s intermediary coverage while also deepening relationships with key sources of deal flow to key middle market investment banks, private equity firms, non-bank lenders, law firms, brokers/intermediaries, entrepreneurs, executives and other prospective clients and/or client leads
  • Provide guidance on investment thesis and key business risks to private equity executives and Company industry teams
  • Partner seamlessly with senior members of the Company in the diligence process, management meetings, and reporting to ensure consistency of client interaction and relationships with targeted clients
  • Build the Company’s brand and position as a thought leader in the private equity and investment banking ecosystem
Candidate Requirements.

To achieve success in this high energy, rapidly growing and entrepreneurial environment, the Principal will need a broad array of technical, leadership, and business operation skills. Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a top institution (advanced degree or MBA preferred)
  • Demonstrated success at the Principal, Partner, Managing Director or equivalent level within a comparable advisory firm, with direct responsibility for originating and expanding private equity client relationships, leading complex commercial due diligence and value creation engagements, and delivering sustained revenue growth
  • Proven track record of building and leading an advisory practice or industry vertical, including developing service offerings, recruiting and mentoring consulting teams, and serving as a trusted advisor to senior private equity investment professionals and portfolio company executives.
  • Knowledge, involvement, and networking within the middle-market private equity and investment banking landscape having relationships with leading intermediaries, lenders, service providers and other influencers
  • Experience and credibility in supporting transactions and client development for value creation
