Job summary

NewsNation is seeking a Segment Producer to work on the network's flagship weekend primetime newscast in Chicago. You will collaborate with show producers to write guest segments, craft scripts, gather visuals, and handle graphics requests while pitching story ideas daily.

The role requires strong newsroom writing skills, the ability to craft dynamic graphic elements, and comfort working under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Five or more years' experience in national or major-market news
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in journalism or related field
• Must exhibit strong news judgment and editorial sensibilities
• Strong broadcast newswriting skills are required
• Must be able to create dynamic graphic and video elements
• Must be self-directing, self-motivating and able to work well with a diverse group of people
• Must interact well with on-air talent, news managers, videographers, production, digital and engineering staff
• Should be able to handle stress, including short deadlines
• Should be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time
• Must be able to work assigned shifts and be on call during overnights, mornings and weekends/holidays

Responsibilities

• Pitch stories daily.
• Identify top-tier guests and segments that help NewsNation stand out.
• Write, organize, and produce scripts and elements for show and interview segments.
• Monitor the latest news and locate people, images, and sound editorial information via social platforms and Dataminr.
• Find reliable guests/witnesses quickly during breaking news situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Producer and Senior Producer or network leadership.
