Job summary

NewsNation is seeking a Segment Producer for its flagship weekend primetime newscast, based in Chicago. You will write guest segments, assemble scripts, gather visuals, and pitch story ideas daily.

You’ll work with show producers and on-air talent, maintaining strong news judgment and deadline-driven performance. Nexstar Media Group offers a comprehensive benefits package and a dynamic newsroom environment.

Qualifications

• Five or more years’ experience in national or major-market news.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in journalism or related field.
• Must exhibit strong news judgment and editorial sensibilities
• Strong broadcast newswriting skills are required
• Must be able to create dynamic graphic and video elements
• Must be self-directing, self-motivating and able to work with a diverse group
• Must interact well with on-air talent, news managers, videographers, production, digital and engineering staff
• Should be able to handle stress, including short deadlines
• Should be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time
• Must be able to work assigned shifts and be on call during overnights, mornings and weekends/holidays
• Flexibility to adjust schedule and assignments as network’s needs evolve.

• Write, organize, and produce scripts and elements for show and interview segments.
• Monitor the latest news and locate people, images, and sound editorial information via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Dataminr, YouTube, and other platforms.
• Find reliable guests/witnesses quickly during breaking news situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned the by Executive Producer and Senior Producer or network leadership.

NewsNation is looking for a Segment Producer to work on the network’s flagship weekend primetime newscast.

The Segment Producer role works with show producers to write guest segments, including script writing, visual element gathering, and graphics requests. The Segment Producer also pitches story and guest ideas as a key part of their role.

NewsNation Prime focuses on news of the day, breaking news, and long-form investigations, deep dives, and in-depth conversations with leaders and lawmakers. NewsNation Prime also focuses on Pulse of America bookings, speaking with real Americans from across the country about what they are seeing and facing, shining a spotlight on the under-told stories across the country. Candidates must have excellent organizational skills, be effective communicators, be detail-oriented, be solid broadcast writers, and work well under deadline pressure.

Salary Range:

$60,000 - $70,000
