Job summary

NewsNation in Chicago is seeking a Segment Producer for the PRIME weekend primetime newscast. You will write guest segments, organize scripts and visual elements, and pitch story ideas in collaboration with show producers.

Responsibilities include identifying top-tier guests, producing scripts for segments, and sourcing video and graphics while meeting tight deadlines. Requires strong news judgment, broadcast writing skills, and at least five years in national or major-market news.

Qualifications

• Five or more years' experience in national or major-market news.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in journalism or related field.
• Must exhibit strong news judgment and editorial sensibilities.
• Strong broadcast newswriting skills are required.
• Must be able to create dynamic graphic and video elements.
• Must be self-directing, self-motivating and able to work with a diverse group of people.
• Must interact well with on-air talent, news managers, videographers, production, digital and engineering staff.
• Should be able to handle stress, including short deadlines.
• Should be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to work assigned shifts and be on call during overnights, mornings and weekends/holidays

Responsibilities

• Pitch stories daily.
• Identify top-tier guests and segments that help NewsNation stand out.
• Write, organize, and produce scripts and elements for show and interview segments.
• Monitor the latest news and locate people, images, and sound editorial information via social platforms and video sources.
• Find reliable guests/witnesses quickly during breaking news situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Producer and Senior Producer or network leadership.
