Job Description

The Primary School Teacher will facilitate the growth of students in a student-centered, developmentally appropriate environment, focusing on research-based best practices following a differentiated, balanced approach and curriculum. The teacher will develop and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and faculty, and recognize and coach students' social-emotional needs.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Design and maintain an organized, engaging classroom that reflects the HSES philosophy of play-based learning.
  2. Establish routines and procedures that promote a safe, orderly, and joyful learning environment.
  3. Prepare lessons and activities based on standards-based, research-based, developmentally appropriate practices that foster independent, lifelong learners.
  4. Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress through observation; plan and implement differentiated instruction accordingly.
  5. Communicate clearly with families of students through written and verbal updates as needed.
  6. Learn and implement current educational programs used at HSES, such as Rice Early Literacy practices, Handwriting Without Tears, Bridges in Mathematics, and Conscious Discipline.
  7. Be proficient with technology and willing to further develop skills in platforms like Google, SMART panels, Seesaw, Planbook, FACTS, Attendance, and Report Cards.
  8. Model lifelong learning by attending and applying relevant professional development opportunities.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • State certification in teaching
  • Minimum of three years experience in independent schools preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills, with effective relationships with colleagues, parents, and students
Physical Requirements
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled classroom environment
  • Occasionally work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
  • Physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds, and perform tasks such as stooping, bending, kneeling, standing, walking, reaching, and sitting on the floor
