Qualifications

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Todeliver and coordinate comprehensive nursing care for patients across all units within the Critical Access Hospital. Clinical settings include Inpatient, Emergency Department, Obstetrics, Outpatient Services, and optional Medevac Transport. The RN provides efficient and safe care to a diverse population, ranging from neonates to geriatric individuals. Ihe RN improves patient outcomes by working as a vital member of the multidisciplinary team, continuously striving to elevate the quality and accessibility of care.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Active and unrestricted RN License required. Alaska RN licensure must be obtained within one (l) year of hire.
  • Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications are required. NRP/ALSO/TNCC/ENPC are preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' clinical experience and exposure to multiple units preferred.
  • Ability to perform comprehensive assessments and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions.
  • Proficient with EHR platforms, with attention to accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner.
  • Proven familiarity with the unique challenges and resources available in rural healthcare settings, including limited access to specialty services and the need for broad clinical versatility.
  • Ability to initiate, coordinate and complete quality monitoring forms and report submission.
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and the ability to assess patient data, interpret age-specific information) and identify the unique needs of each patient and family to deliver appropriate individualized care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of unit specific protocols, workflows, equipment, and patient care standards.
  • Delivers safe, efficient evidence-based nursing care across all hospital units and settings.
  • Assesses, prioritizes, and initiates interventions based on patient needs.
  • Administers prescribed medications safely, monitoring for adverse reactions.
  • Maintains accurate and compliant electronic health records (EHR),meeting all documentation standards.
  • Exhibits cultural competence by respecting and adapting to the diverse backgrounds and needs of patients and families.
  • Serves as Charge Nurse when assigned, fulfilling leadership duties per established procedure.
  • Develops and implements individualized nursing care plans.
  • Initiates appropriate infection control measures based on patient assessment.
  • Functions competently as a medevac escort, managing patient care, equipment, and documentation efficiency.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: work is performed in a clinical setting, including Inpatient, Emergency Department, Obstetrics, and Outpatient Services, Responsibilities may occasionally include air-transport-escort and home visits, with on-call duties outlined by departmental needs. There is frequent exposure to contagious diseases. The role requires the ability to see, hear, speak, walk, sit, bend, kneel, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work hours are variable and depend on unit needs and shift assignments. Village travel may be necessary. The working conditions as when as physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None, except when assigned as Charge Nurse, in which case responsible for supervising Registered Nurses, Clinical Assistants, Emergency Services Technicians, and Emergency Department Clerks during the assigned shift.
