Job summary

Mercy is seeking a Primary Care Medical Assistant to support providers and the care team in delivering patient-centered care in a fast-paced setting.

You will perform rooming duties, vitals, medication reconciliation, and assist with in-office testing while coordinating care plans and follow-ups with the team. Mercy supports ongoing certification and professional growth.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Active Medical Assistant certification/registration (RMA, CCMA, CMA) preferred/required at some Mercy locations.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire is required.
• 6 months of clinical healthcare experience preferred, preferably in a primary care office.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patient for visit with provider by completing Advanced Standard room process including entering chief complaint, taking vitals, reviewing history and allergies.
• Completes thorough medication reconciliation and uses Encounter Guide to close care gaps (e.g., fall risk, depression and cancer screenings).
• Rechecks elevated blood pressures and documents yearly preventative visits in Epic as needed.
• Assists with in-office testing (blood draws, mental status exams, EKGs, oxygen studies, POCT).
• Administers vaccines and injections within scope of practice.
• Schedules follow-up appointments per office policy and coordinates care with the clinical team.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Active Medical Assistant certification/registration (RMA, CCMA, CMA)

Under the direction of the primary care operations team, the Primary Care Patient Care MA works directly with Mercy Primary Care Providers to provide safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient-centered care in a systematic way. The Primary Care Patient Care MA will partner with patients, providers, and other members of the clinical care team to drive quality outcomes for all patients. Duties and responsibilities will be performed in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Overview

• Prepares patient for visit with provider by completing Advanced Standard room process including:
• Entering the chief complaint
• Taking patient vital signs; reviewing patient history and allergies
• Completing a thorough medication reconciliation
• Working the Encounter Guide including helping to close any open care gaps such as fall risk, depression screening, breast cancer screening, colorectal cancer screening, and diabetic eye exam
• Rechecking elevated blood pressures
• Completing needed documentation in Epic for yearly preventative visits as needed.
• Assists with any needed in-office testing including, but not limited to, drawing blood, completing mental status exams, EKG’s, walking oxygen studies and point of care testing.
• Administer vaccines and other injections within scope of practice.
• Schedules follow up appointments when needed per office policy.
• Collaborates with providers and clinical care team to monitor and coordinate delivery of the care plan.

Primary Care Assistant - Medical Assistant

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Certification: Must obtain BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred Experience: 6 months of clinical healthcare experience, preferably in a primary care office.

Primary Care - Certified Medical Assistant

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Certification: Must have active Medical Assistant certification/registration (RMA, CCMA, CMA). Must obtain BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

LPN Qualifications

• Education: Diploma in Practical Nursing
• Licensure: Active LPN licensure
• Preferred Experience: 6 months clinical healthcare experience, preferably in a primary care office
