Job summary

Merchants Insurance Group, a leading P&C insurer in the Northeast, seeks a Pricing Actuarial Analyst for the Corporate Actuarial team in Buffalo, NY. The role supports product managers with pricing proposals and profitability analyses to guide strategic decisions.

The successful candidate will contribute to trend analysis, loss experience, and model development while collaborating with state regulators and business partners. Hybrid work splits time between office and remote work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
• Experience in the actuarial field, property/casualty insurance company, or agency is preferred.
• Credit for two exams and commitment to pursuing actuarial credentials from the CAS is preferred.
• Proficient in Excel
• General programming and/or database skills; SQL experience preferred.
• PowerBI or Tableau experience is a plus
• Proficiency in pricing concepts, P&C products/coverages is preferred.
• Experience with Radar or similar rating software is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Develops rate indications for state/product lines in line with standards.
• Creates competitive and impact analyses using Radar to aid rate proposals.
• Monitors ISO and Workers’ Compensation rating changes.
• Prepares rate filings and coordinates with state departments for approvals.
• Prepares system files and ensures timely implementation of rates.
• Develops pricing model documentation and maintains it.
• Analyzes loss experience and product profiles; communicates results to partners.
• Assists in semi‑annual rate indications for state/product mixes.
• Supports development and maintenance of actuarial pricing models.
