Monday – Friday, 9:00AM – 5:00PM
Occasional evening meetings

Summary

Family Service League is seeking a full-time Prevention Specialist for the Prevention Resource Center in Bay Shore. The Prevention Specialist will develop community substance abuse prevention coalitions, provide training and technical assistance to community organizations, champions, and coalition members to reduce alcohol and drug abuse in Nassau and Suffolk communities.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing new community coalitions to prevent underage drinking and substance abuse.
  • Attend and facilitate existing coalition meetings.
  • Initiate or facilitate five activities quarterly to recruit stakeholders for coalition capacity building.
  • Develop and launch public information and social media campaigns to promote community health and wellness.
  • Address substance abuse issues collaboratively with treatment and prevention providers and community leaders.
  • Provide training and technical assistance on environmental strategies tailored to community needs.
  • Develop needs assessments, action plans, logic models, and communication plans for coalitions.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field.
  • At least 1 year of relevant community-level experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation, with mileage reimbursed.
Physical Requirements

Occasional travel to Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and Washington DC with overnight stays required.
