Job purpose

Recovery Action Network of Michigan (RANMI) is seeking a passionate, creative, and organized Prevention & Community Outreach Coordinator to support youth and family prevention initiatives, community education, outreach activities, and public awareness efforts throughout Western Wayne County.

This position coordinates school-based prevention education, family strengthening activities, community outreach events, and educational programming. The coordinator also manages RANMI's social media presence and monthly newsletter, helping share resources, promote programs, and strengthen community engagement.

As a Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC), this individual brings lived experience and peer support principles to their work, helping connect individuals and families with education, resources, and recovery support.

The position combines community-based activities with planning, communications, and administrative responsibilities. Work priorities vary throughout the year based on school schedules, community events, and program needs.

Duties and responsibilities

Prevention & Education:

  • Coordinate and deliver school-based substance use prevention education, youth engagement activities, and alternative-to-suspension programming.
  • Support family strengthening workshops, family education, and prevention-focused community events.
  • Develop and deliver educational presentations and materials addressing substance use prevention, overdose prevention, harm reduction, recovery, and related topics.
  • Support evidence-informed prevention initiatives using principles of SAMHSA's Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF).

Community Outreach:

  • Coordinate and participate in resource fairs, school events, community outreach activities, and awareness campaigns.
  • Organize event logistics, outreach supplies, educational materials, and naloxone distribution activities.

  • Maintain communication with schools, event organizers, and community partners to coordinate assigned activities.

Social Media & Communications:

  • Manage RANMI's social media platforms, including developing, scheduling, and publishing educational and promotional content.
  • Develop and maintain a social media content calendar to support consistent community engagement.
  • Coordinate the creation and distribution of RANMI's monthly newsletter, gathering program updates, educational resources, and upcoming event information.
  • Collaborate with staff and RANMI's media consultant to develop engaging, accurate, and accessible communications materials.
  • Monitor engagement and respond to routine community inquiries.
  • Provide nonclinical peer recovery support, resource navigation, and referrals to individuals and families affected by substance use.
  • Collaborate with the Recovery Programs Manager to connect participants with appropriate recovery services and programs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of program activities, participation, outreach efforts, and outcomes.
  • Assist with program planning, evaluation, and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and professional development activities.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current MDHHS Certified Peer Recovery Coach (CPRC) certification.
  • Lived experience in recovery from a substance use disorder, with at least 24 months in recovery.
  • Experience in community outreach, prevention education, youth or family programming, peer recovery support, or related community-based work.
  • Strong communication, public speaking, facilitation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, social media platforms, Microsoft Office or comparable applications, and digital communications tools.
  • Ability to work independently, coordinate multiple activities, manage deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented practices.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout Western Wayne County.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as required by programs and community events.

Preferred Qualifications
