Job summary

Community Unit School District 308 is seeking a maintenance technician to uphold a safe and functional school environment. The role covers HVAC, plumbing, electrical and various building systems under the direction of the Director/Assistant Director of Operations.

The position requires a valid Illinois driver's license, ability to lift 50 pounds, and willingness to work in diverse conditions. This is a 12-month, full-time role with comprehensive benefits through OCMA.

Qualifications

• Skilled trade training in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing.
• Knowledge of maintenance methods for school facilities.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work in varied conditions; outdoors and inside.
• Valid Illinois Driver's License required.
• Previous maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire and other building system repairs as assigned.
• Conducts periodic maintenance inspections and preventive tasks.
• Monitors work orders and responds promptly per district procedures.
• Assists with fixtures, furniture, and equipment upkeep.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Ensures safe, clean work areas and reports hazards to leadership.
• Participates in snow removal and emergency repairs as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Please note that the hourly rate of pay is inclusive of the mandatory 4.5% retirement contribution to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).

$22.47 Per Hour plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Training in a skilled trade such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing sufficient to perform assigned duties and troubleshoot/diagnose system malfunctions
• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and operations of school district facilities
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
• Ability to perform assigned duties in challenging conditions that may require exposure to the elements, climbing a ladder, or crawling in confined spaces
• Valid Illinois Driver's License
• Alternatives to the above requirements as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
• Previous maintenance experience preferred

General Description

To provide for a safe and functional environment that is conducive to learning by performing various skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of school buildings and grounds as directed by the Director and Assistant Director of Operations.

Specific Responsibilities

• Performs general repair and maintenance tasks pertaining to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire, burglar, and other building systems as assigned.
• Conducts periodic maintenance inspections according to assigned schedule.
• Monitors all work orders and responds to them in a timely manner, per District procedure.
• Assists with the assembly and maintenance of fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
• Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Ensures that equipment, work areas, and vehicles are neat, clean, and orderly; and promptly reports damange and/or hazards to the Director of Operations or designee.
• Performs emergency repairs and cleaning as assigned.
• Participates in snow removal efforts as assigned.
• Utilizes safe work practices, and properly utilizes personal protective equipment when necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
