Job summary

Community Unit School District 308 seeks a skilled maintenance technician to keep school facilities safe and functional by performing HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and related tasks.

This full-time, 12-month position offers a starting hourly rate of $22.47 plus benefits and a schedule of 10:00am–6:30pm. Applicants should have trade training, a valid IL driver’s license, ability to lift 50 pounds, and prior maintenance experience.

Qualifications

• Training in a skilled trade such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing.
• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and operations of school district facilities.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform duties in conditions that may involve exposure to elements, climbing a ladder, or crawling in confined spaces.
• Valid Illinois Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Performs general repair and maintenance tasks pertaining to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire, burglar, and other building systems as assigned.
• Conducts periodic maintenance inspections according to assigned schedule.
• Monitors all work orders and responds to them in a timely manner, per District procedure.
• Assists with the assembly and maintenance of fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
• Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Ensures that equipment, work areas, and vehicles are neat, clean, and orderly; and promptly reports damage and/or hazards to the Director of Operations or designee.
• Performs emergency repairs and cleaning as assigned.
• Participates in snow removal efforts as assigned.
• Utilizes safe work practices, and properly utilizes personal protective equipment when necessary.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Training in a skilled trade such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing sufficient to perform assigned duties and troubleshoot/diagnose system malfunctions
• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and operations of school district facilities
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
• Ability to perform assigned duties in challenging conditions that may require exposure to the elements, climbing a ladder, or crawling in confined spaces
• Valid Illinois Driver's License
• Alternatives to the above requirements as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
• Previous maintenance experience preferred

General Description

To provide for a safe and functional environment that is conducive to learning by performing various skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of school buildings and grounds as directed by the Director and Assistant Director of Operations.
