Job summary

State of Oregon’s Judicial Department seeks a Release Assistance Officer to assess defendants’ eligibility for court-appointed counsel and release options. You will apply Oregon law and validated risk assessment tools to balance courtroom needs with public safety, preparing thorough release recommendations for judges.

You will manage a caseload, liaise with judges, law enforcement, and community partners, and operate within a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, behavioral or social/human services, or a closely related field.
• Four years’ experience in criminal justice or a court environment.
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to four years.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews with defendants in custody and with involved parties to gather information.
• Research background information and complete risk assessments using court systems.
• Prepare release recommendation reports and communicate findings to judges and attorneys.
• Monitor compliance with release conditions and testify in court when needed.
