Qualifications

• Associate degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, environmental engineering or related field.
• Completion of Kentucky/Tennessee Voluntary Pretreatment Certification Level I.
• Completion of laboratory cross-training.
• Completion of California State course tracks: Operations & Maintenance of Wastewater Collection Systems.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of industries, food services establishments, and other commercial entities to evaluate conformance to regulations.
• Enter data into software and communicate with staff on compliance status.
• Follow established SOPs and safety policies.
• Conduct required sampling for permit compliance.
• Determine nature of permit violations and enforcement actions as needed.
• Maintain advanced knowledge of applicable software applications.

Summary:

The Industrial Pretreatment group monitors industrial dischargers to ensure that potentially harmful pollutants do not interfere with the wastewater treatment process. This is accomplished by inspecting, monitoring, and sampling industrial users to verify compliance with SD1 Rules and Regulations, as well as state and federal regulations. The pretreatment technician has an established knowledge base, inspects industrial and commercial establishments,and works with existing staff to carry out the program’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducts inspections of industries, food services establishments, and other commercial entities to evaluate conformance to local, state, and federal regulations.
• Maintains ongoing communication with department staff on compliance status and issues; enters data completely and accurately into appropriate software.
• Consistently follows established departmental and organizational policies and SOPs.
• Conducts required sampling for permit compliance, as needed.
• Determines the nature of permit violations and actions to be taken, issues enforcement, when applicable.
• Maintains a thorough understanding of appropriate software applications and utilizes them at an advanced level.

Education/Experience :

• Associate degree with major course work in chemistry, biology, environmental science, environmental engineering, or related field;or equivalent combination of education and experience in the environmental science field.
• Completion of Kentucky/Tennessee Voluntary Pretreatment Certification Level I within a reasonable amount of time.
• Completion of laboratory cross-training.
• Successful completion of both of the following California State course tracks:
• Operations & Maintenance of Wastewater Collection Systems.
