Job summary

The City of Cayce is seeking a detail-oriented and technically minded Pretreatment Technician to support the City's Industrial Pretreatment Program and help ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

This position works closely with the Pretreatment Coordinator and Director of Compliance and Laboratories to monitor industrial users, collect and evaluate data, conduct field sampling and inspections, maintain records, and support the City's wastewater pretreatment compliance

Qualifications

• Degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or equivalent.
• Experience with pretreatment/labs/wastewater is preferred.
• Proficiency with data entry and reading technical instructions.

The City of Cayce is seeking a detail-oriented andtechnically minded Pretreatment Technician to support the City'sIndustrial Pretreatment Program and help ensure compliance with local, state,and federal regulations. This position works closely with the PretreatmentCoordinator and Director of Compliance and Laboratories to monitor industrial users,collect and evaluate data, conduct field sampling and inspections, maintainrecords, and support the City's wastewater pretreatment compliance efforts.

Position Overview

The Pretreatment Technician performs skilled andsemi-skilled work in support of the City's Industrial Pretreatment Program.Under the general supervision of the Pretreatment Coordinator and Director ofCompliance and Laboratories, this position assists with industrial usermonitoring, inspections, sampling, recordkeeping, data analysis, permittracking, and regulatory compliance activities.

Key Responsibilities

• MaintainsknowledgeandunderstandingoftheIndustrialPretreatmentProgramforcompliancewithlocal,state,and federal regulations.
• Knows and utilizes skills, procedures, codes, regulations, etc. required to complete job tasks.
• Maintainsrecordsofinformationfromindustrial users.
• Assistswithcollection,review,anddataentryofdischargemonitoringreportsfromindustrial users.
• Works with Pretreatment Coordinator to detect performance problems with industrial users.
• Performsfield sampling as needed for compliance and investigation of industrial users.
• UtilizestheCity’spretreatmentmanagementsoftware,e.g. Linko.
• Helps Create and maintain methods of tracking permit milestones and annual inspection/sampling dates.
• Schedulesannualindustrialsamplesandperformsindustrialinspectionsinaccordancewithfederalandstaterequirements with the assistance of the
• Pretreatment Coordinator and/orDirector of Compliance and Laboratories.
• Correspondswithindustrialusercontactsviaphoneoremailregardingdaily/regular communications.
• Coordinates with otherPretreatment staff as well as contract laboratories to ensureindustrial user sampling follows EPA and SCDHEC NPDES requirements.
• Evaluates and interprets data using statistical analyses to generate related reports and charts.
• Communicatesandcoordinatesregularlywithotherstomaximizetheeffectivenessandefficiencyof interdepartmentaloperations and activities.
• Attends pretreatment consortium meetings,workshops, training, etc. to enhance job knowledge and skills and toremain current on the principles,practices, and requirements of industrial pretreatment.
• Receivesandrespondstoinquiries,concerns,complaints,andrequestsforassistancefromcustomersandthegeneral public regarding areas ofresponsibility as directed by Pretreatment staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• Preferabachelor’s or associate degree in biology,chemistry,environmentalscienceorotherrelatedprogramor equivalent such asphysical chemical or biological license, oras determined by City of Cayce Pretreatment management.
• Experiencewithpretreatment,laboratories,wastewatertreatment,plantoperationsorregulationsis preferred.
• Requirescomputingorperformingarithmeticoperationsusingdataor information.
• Requiresperformingworkinvolvingguidelinesand rules.
• Requiresreadingtechnicalinstructions,procedures,manuals,systemmaps,regulations,andchartstosolvepractical problems;composingroutinereportsandspecializedreports,formsandbusinessletterswithproperformat;speaking compoundsentences using normal grammar and word form.

• Requiresfrequentproblemsolvingandnormalattentionwithshortperiodsofconcentrationforaccurateresultsandoccasional exposure to unusual pressure.

• KnowledgeofCity’sSewerUseOrdinanceandEnforcementResponse Plan.
• Knowledge of EPA and South Carolina General Pretreatment Standards.
• Knowledge of Linko Pretreatment Management Software.
• Knowledgeofbasiccomputersystems(Exceland Word).
• Abilitytocommunicateclearlyorallyandin writing.
• Abilitytomaintainpositivecustomer-focusedrelationshipswithco-workers,supervisors,agencies,thegeneralpublic, and all other internal and external customers.
• Demonstrates appropriate customer serviceskills.
• AbilitytomaintainpositiveandprofessionalrelationshipswithregulatingagenciessuchasDESandthe EPA.
