Overview

Job Summary:

Consider joining the Pennex family as a Press Operator at our Wellsville, PA location. The Press Operator operates a hydraulic extrusion press and an extrusion puller in a safe and efficient manner ensuring proper quality and highest productivity standards are met.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for setting billet length, furnace temperature controls, ram speed and puller program for optimum production and quality.
  • Watch metal for quality problems, such as pick up, tear out and die lines. Make appropriate changes to operating set up to try to correct. Report problems, and work with Foremen and Lead Person to improve productivity/quality.
  • Assist lead out position with set ups, tear downs and changeovers.
  • Roll logs when needed.
  • Minimize downtime during die changeover by having bolster and next die ready for production.
  • Ensure lead out knows what the next die change is, when it is and what is needed to complete set up.
  • Will change dummy blocks as directed by management.
  • Check dies and bolsters ensuring set up properly before starting that job.
  • Assist with set up of water boxes, water pans, cooling fans and other special requirements for various alloys.
  • Regularly check all equipment reporting immediately any possible problems to the Shift Foreman or Lead Person.
  • Completes daily Press Operator preventative maintenance (PM) and fills out PM checklist.
  • Before turning press over to maintenance for repairs and/or assisting with performing yourself, make sure power is off on press and the computer.
  • Fill out any necessary paperwork during shift.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area and assist with general housekeeping of the press department.
  • Follow company rules and regulations regarding work and safety practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • One or more years of experience and/or training
  • Prefer previous hydraulic press operation or minimum of metal machining experience.

Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to operate tow motor, function independently or in a team environment and possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, self-driven, and eager to learn and apply new skills
  • Attentive to details and follows through on assigned tasks and commitments.
  • Must have regular attendance.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States, visa sponsorships are not available

  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
