Job summary

Weyerhaeuser is hiring two hourly Press Operators in the Natchitoches, LA mill. You will operate the press to manufacture laminated veneer lumber, monitor quality, and keep the line running smoothly on the graveyard shift.

A high school diploma or GED is required, and candidates must pass tests and a certification checklist. Overtime may be required, and a resume detailing education and work history is requested for consideration.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the operation of the Press and veneer quality per instructions.
• Remove unusable veneer; place salvageable veneer into reclaim cart.
• Realign sheets to maintain acceptable pattern during processing.
• Occasionally spread glue on sheets using a roller as needed.
• Perform clean-up and shutdowns per procedure; lock out and purge lines.
• Communicate quality issues with Billet Tender.
• Be a self-starter and work effectively in a team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Two positions for an hourly Press Operator within the Press D Department are now open at the Natchitoches EWP Mill. The Press Operator will manufacture laminated veneer lumber, keep the Press running consistently, and assure quality of the product.

The wage for this role is $26.36 per hour.

Key Functions

• Monitor the operation of the Press, the quality of the veneer being processed, and check for pitch, bark, broken corners, and split sheets according to specific instructions.
• Remove unusable veneer sheets, placing salvageable veneer into a reclaim cart.
• Watch the press by observing monitors, cameras, and observing exactly what is being processed into the press. Monitor bays, including infeed lines and the layup sections.
• Essential to straighten sheets, realigning them to ensure acceptable pattern as veneer sheet becomes jammed or crooked.
• Occasionally use a roller to spread glue on sheets of veneer.
• Perform clean-up activities by shutting down the machine on designated days, locking out, cleaning up glue, using steam and air lines.
• Communicate effectively with Billet Tender regarding quality issues.
• Must be a self-starter, capable of performing in a team environment.
• Other duties as assigned.
