The Press Assistantserves an important role for the office by monitoring national and local media coverage for the Member. In addition, the Press Assistantwill work with the Digital Media Director, Communications Director, Legislative Director, District Director, and Chief of Staff to develop, release, and monitor media content. They will also draft press releases, media advisories, and organize press events for the Member.

Sample Job Duties:

In this role, a Press Assistantcould be expected to:

  • Serve as an integral part of the Member’s communication team by monitoring national and local media coverage
  • Partners with the Member’s leadership team to develop, release, and monitor response to media content
  • Support the drafting of press releases, media advisories, op-eds, and newsletters
  • Organize press events for the Member in Washington, D.C. and in the district
  • Compile and disseminate the Member’s daily news clips to office staff
  • Produce graphics, videos, and other digital media messages for Member communications

Sample Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, government, political science, public policy, or related field
  • Prior Capitol Hill experience is preferred
  • A demonstrated interest in public service
