The Royal Statistical Society is seeking a Press and Communications Officer to raise the Society’s profile across policy, advocacy and public engagement. This 0.6 FTE role is hybrid in London with office attendance around 40% of time.
You will develop media plans, draft press materials and build relationships with journalists while explaining complex statistics clearly to diverse audiences.

Its Press and Communications Officer raises the Society’s profile across policy, advocacy and public engagement, making complex topics accessible to journalists, policymakers and the public.
Permanent, 21 hours a week (0.6 FTE), with flexibility in how the hours are worked subject to business need and prior agreement. Hybrid in London, with regular central London office attendance for 40% of working time. £20,400 actual annual salary (£34,000 full-time equivalent). Reports to the Head of Policy and Advocacy.
Develop media plans and communications campaigns; build journalist relationships and secure coverage; draft press releases, statements, briefings and opinion pieces; handle media enquiries and support spokespeople; create social content; and monitor the impact of coverage. You will help connect RSS experts with current public debates.
At least two years’ experience in communications, press, public affairs or media relations; evidence of media placements and relationships; strong writing and editing, campaign delivery and project organisation; confidence with senior stakeholders and specialists; and the ability to explain complex issues clearly. Experience in a charity, membership or policy setting and interest in data and evidence are advantageous.
