Job summary

The Nature Conservancy in South Carolina seeks a SC Coast Burn Crew Member to implement prescribed fire across preserves, learn diverse terrains, and support burn operations. The role includes training, traveling, and advancing fire certification while collaborating with agency partners.

Position begins January 11, 2027 and ends May 28, 2027 (end date negotiable); based in Awendaw, SC with housing provided. FFT2 training and NWCG certifications are essential, with weekend work possible.

Qualifications

• FFT2 certification and related ICS/NIMS training are required.
• Must achieve NWCG arduous fitness rating.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
• Certifications such as Wilderness First Responder or EMT are preferred.
• Willingness to travel, work weekends, and flexible hours.
• Footwear: lace-up boots, minimum 8 inches tall.

Responsibilities

• Implement prescribed fire under FFT2 supervision.
• Assist with planning and preparations for burn operations.
• Travel across SC for prescribed/wildland fire projects as needed.
• Develop and maintain professional fire community relationships.
• Maintain and grow fire certification credentials.
