Job summary

The Nature Conservancy’s South Carolina Coastal Burn Crew seeks a dedicated member to implement prescribed fires across Conservancy lands and partner sites. You’ll work in piney coastal forests and occasionally in Midlands and mountains, learning multiple terrain burn techniques.

You will maintain firefighting credentials, pursue additional certifications, and support burn planning and operations while traveling and potentially staying away overnight.

Qualifications

• FireFighter Type 2 qualification with ICS/NIMS prerequisites and supervised burn experience.
• Ability to carry 45 lb pack 3 miles in under 45 minutes to meet NWCG fitness standard.
• Must obtain required licenses or certifications (First Aid/CPR, etc.).
• Willingness to travel and work weekends with a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities

• Implement prescribed fire on TNC and partner lands across SC.
• Learn to burn in diverse terrains from piney forests to montane areas.
• Assist on wildland fire operations with partners as needed.
