Job summary

The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is seeking a Preschool Teacher Assistant to create a safe, caring learning environment for preschoolers. You will assist the lead teacher, supervise children, and help plan daily activities in alignment with licensing standards.

You will participate in trainings, interact with families, and promote YMCA programs while maintaining a professional appearance and a positive attitude.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 16 years of age.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of one year experience in a related field in a supervised setting.
• CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification within 30 days.
• Proof of a negative TB test within the last 2 years.
• MAT Certification preferred.
• Complete mandated trainings (NEO, Bloodborne Pathogens, CAP, Sexual Harassment) on hire and annually.
• Criminal background, Virginia State Police, and Child Protective Services checks required.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher with supervision, behavior management and safety of preschool children.
• Supervise children within sight and sound during assigned shift.
• Assist with planning and preparation of daily programs and activities.
• Participate in group activities including swimming, team building, arts and crafts.
• Follow Virginia Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers and department standards.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Report daily activities to parents as needed.
• Wear staff uniform and name tag; maintain professional attire.
• Promote YMCA fundraising efforts and campaigns.
• Act as a leader in emergency situations and follow EOP.
