Job summary

Channel Islands YMCA is seeking an Experienced Preschool Teacher for the Montecito Family YMCA in Santa Barbara, CA. The role supports planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs in line with state licensing guidelines.

Responsibilities include supervising up to 12 children, guiding behavior, delivering activities, HEPA compliance, and fostering welcoming environments for families. Both full-time and part-time positions are available, with benefits and schedule flexibility.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 12 units in Child Development or related field required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing childcare programs per California Community Care Licensing guidelines.
  • Supervises up to 12 children independently under California Community Care Licensing guidelines.
  • Supervises an Assistant or Associate Teacher with up to 15 or 18 children under California Community Care Licensing guidelines.
  • Provides quality care and supervision to children (visual, proactive, interactive).
  • Provide a safe environment for all children to thrive.
  • Guide behaviors using positive methods, keeping in mind each child’s individual needs.
  • Carry out activities and lesson plans.
  • Ensure the program is delivering HEPA standards.
  • Set up and clean-up of the program area including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, etc.
  • Provides exceptional customer service and fosters connections with children and families.
  • Participating and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings.
  • Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all children and families.
  • Able to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team.
  • Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are in working order. Report any concerns.
  • Maintain certifications and take advantage of professional growth opportunities.
  • Support the annual campaign process including education of members.
  • Understand your role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse. Report and respond to situations in accordance with policies and procedures.

What does a Preschool Teacher do?

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 12 units in Child Development or a related field
  • 6 months of experience in a childcare setting
  • Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
  • Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire
  • Ability to obtain Criminal Record Clearance
