Job summary

St. Andrew's School in Middletown, Delaware, invites a dedicated Preschool Teacher to join our childcare team.

This full-time 12-month position focuses on creating engaging, age-appropriate lessons, ensuring safety, and fostering a love of learning in children from 6 weeks to 9 years. You will work with lead teachers, support learning centers, communicate with parents, and contribute to a caring, safe classroom environment.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age with an Early Childhood Education Certificate as Head or Assistant Teacher.
  • Two or more years of experience in a childcare setting or working with young children.
  • Knowledge of the social, emotional, and creative needs of young children.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with young children and parents.
  • Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to the various needs of children and parents.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children for the facilitation of programs, child safety, and potential emergency situations.
  • Patience and compassion suitable for working with young children.

Position Summary

The Preschool Teacher creates engaging and educational experiences for campers, developing and implementing age-appropriate lesson plans, ensuring camper safety, and fostering a positive learning environment, often in both indoor and outdoor settings.

St. Andrew's Preschool and Childcare is located on the campus of St. Andrew's School which is an Episcopal, co-educational, all-boarding high school situated on 2,200 acres in Middletown, Delaware. Camps offer full and half-day programs for ages 6 weeks to 9 years of age. This position has the important role of guiding children through milestone moments by helping young minds explore, discover and understand the world around them.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe and caring environment with supervision and daily class functions of a group of children.
  • Observe all St. Andrew's rules and the state regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety, and care of children.
  • Support lead teachers by integrating supplementary activities into the daily schedule that are age-appropriate and relevant to children's learning.
  • Willing to take responsibility to lead class in the absence of the lead teacher.
  • Work as a team player and willing to assist in other classes as needed.
  • Maintain daily communication with parents.
  • Attend in-service and monthly staff meetings.
  • Support the lead teachers to maintain an attractive, well-kept classroom that encourages children to create, explore and make decisions with confidence.
  • Accept responsibility for maintenance and cleaning duties of the classroom and playground.
  • Able to work as a team member coordinating activities and curriculum.
  • Implement instructional strategies that integrate play, discovery approach and learning centers.
  • Support the implementation of learning experiences as outlined by the lead teacher that advance the intellectual, physical and social/emotional development of all children, including developing their literacy, phonemic, print, and numeric awareness, their understanding and use of increasingly complex and varied vocabulary, their appreciation of books and their problem-solving abilities.
  • Provide verbal recognition and acceptance to children while providing clear and consistent expectations for the children's behavior.
