Job summary

Job Summary

Assists in providing a developmentally appropriate learning environment for a class of approximately 20 children in conjunction with the Teacher for either the Extended Day or Regular Day Preschool Programs. Supports the planning and implementation of a language-based curriculum for preschool‑aged children that fosters Protestant religion and Hawaiian culture, maintains required certifications, and participates in curriculum development.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Instructional Assist: support daily classroom lessons, engage in appropriate interactions with students, provide small‑group instruction, observe and assess learning.
  • Supervision: oversee student behavior independently and under Teacher direction, applying early‑childhood health and safety guidelines.
  • Program/Clerical Support: manage snack menu pick‑up, maintain attendance and other program records, order and maintain materials and supplies.
  • Classroom Participation: prepare materials for a safe and healthy indoor/outdoor classroom, including daily snack preparation and sanitizing; maintain classroom centers, materials, and equipment.
  • Staff Development: participate in workshops and in‑services.
Position Requirements
  • Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; good interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications: CDA or AA in Early Childhood Education; knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and an age‑appropriate Protestant religion curriculum; experience working with at‑risk children and/or families.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently sits, performs desk‑based computer tasks, and grasps light or fine manipulation, talks or hears.
  • Occasionally stands/walks, writes by hand, and lifts/carries, pushes or pulls objects that weigh up to 30 pounds.
  • Rarely twists, bends, stoops, squats, kneels, crawls, climbs, reaches, or works above the shoulder, or grasps forcefully.
Working Conditions

This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighboring islands. Work occurs in an office/school environment and may be in non‑standard workplaces. Schedule is typically Monday through Friday during normal business hours, with evening and weekend hours often required to meet goals and objectives.
