Preschool Substitute Aide – Temporary, On‑Call (Fixed Term)

Compensation and Schedule

$23.14 per hour. Monday–Friday day shifts with flexible hours up to 40hours per week, depending on operational need.

Job Summary

Assists in providing a developmentally appropriate learning environment for a class of approximately 20 children, in conjunction with the Teacher. Supports the Extended Day or Regular Day Preschool Programs, implements a developmentally appropriate language‑based curriculum that fosters Protestant religion and Hawaiian culture, maintains required certifications, and participates in curriculum development.

Essential Responsibilities

• Instructional assistance in daily classroom lessons, including appropriate interactions with students, small‑group instruction, observations, and assessment.
• Supervision of student behavior independently and under Teacher direction, following early childhood health and safety guidelines.
• Program and clerical support: snack menu pick‑up, maintaining attendance and other records, ordering and maintaining materials and supplies.
• Classroom participation: prepare materials needed for a safe and healthy classroom indoor/outdoor environment, daily snack preparation and sanitizing, maintaining classroom centers, materials, and equipment.
• Staff development: participation in workshops and in‑services.

Position Requirements

• Minimum qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; good interpersonal skills; ability to organize high volume of varied work activities; good written and oral communication skills.
• Preferred qualifications: CDA or AA in Early Childhood Education; knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and age‑appropriate Protestant religion curriculum; experience working with at‑risk children and/or families.

Physical Requirements

Frequent sitting, desk‑based computer tasks, light or fine manipulation, speech, and hearing. Occasional standing, walking, writing, lifting and carrying of objects up to 30pounds. Rare use of twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, reaching above shoulder level, or grasping forcefully.

Working Conditions

May involve traveling to various locations, including neighboring islands. Work is conducted in office/school environments and may require work outside standard workplaces. Typically Monday through Friday during normal business hours, but evening and weekend hours are often required.
