Job summary

Horace Mann Laboratory School, Salem Public Schools, Salem, MA, is seeking a Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher for STRIDE (Gr 3-5) from 11/13/26 to 2/26/27. The role supports integrated/substantial preschool programs with IEPs, data-driven instruction, and collaboration with families and staff.

The candidate will develop and implement instructional plans, assessments, and behavioral interventions, while collaborating with the Special Education team to ensure high-quality services

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required for the position.
• Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Special Education is required (or ability to obtain).
• Master’s Degree preferred.
• Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required within 1 year of start date.
• Current authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Oversee programming for students in the Integrated and/or substantially separate preschool classroom.
• Provide specialized instruction aligned with best practices for public preschools.
• Collaborate with classroom support team to develop data-taking mechanisms and monitor progress.
• Maintain positive relationships with students and manage behavior positively.
• Collaborate with parents and community agencies to improve student outcomes and develop IEPs.
• Write effective IEPs with SMART goals and accommodations, and generate progress reports.
• Administer, interpret, and report findings from evaluations, including remote assessments if needed.
• Present student progress at IEP meetings and ensure documentation.
• Assess preschool readiness and social development using formal and informal measures.
• Support paraprofessionals and staff in implementing classroom goals and IEPs.
• Use innovative approaches to increase access to learning and SEL integration.

Education

Bachelor's Degree Required

Master’s Degree preferred

Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Special Education

SEI Endorsement required within 1 year
