Job summary

Salem Public Schools seeks a Preschool Special Education Teacher to teach 3–5 year olds in integrated or substantially separate programs at the Early Childhood Center. You will collaborate with a diverse team to deliver accessible learning, progress monitoring, and family engagement.

You will develop and implement IEPs, write SMART goals, and use data to drive instruction while participating in professional learning communities within Salem’s urban context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s preferred.
• Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Special Education (Moderate Disabilities).
• Severe Disabilities license preferred but not required.
• SEI Endorsement required within 1 year of start date.
• Experience with ABA is preferred but not required.
• Current authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Oversee programming for Integrated/substantially separate preschool classrooms.
• Provide specialized instruction aligned with best practice standards for public preschools.
• Develop data-taking mechanisms with the team to drive instruction and monitor progress.
• Maintain positive relationships with students and manage behavior with positive strategies.
• Collaborate with families and agencies to implement IEPs and decisions.
• Write effective IEPs with SMART goals and accommodations, and generate progress reports.
• Administer, interpret, and report findings from standardized evaluations, including remote assessments if needed.
• Present progress evidence at special education meetings.
• Evaluate preschool readiness and social development using formal/informal measures.
• Support paraprofessionals and staff in implementing goals and accommodations.
• Embed SEL into lesson planning and adapt materials for student needs.
• Use technology to enable learning and remote instruction if required.
