Austintown Local Schools Austintown Elementary School in Austintown, Ohio is seeking a Preschool Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with IEPs in a 9-month, 28-hour-per-week schedule.

The role involves supervising students, assisting with personal care and safety, maintaining confidentiality, and helping in a self-contained classroom under the guidance of building principals and the Special Education Director.

Job Description

2026-2027 Assignment Area: AES Preschool- Grant-Funded

Please note: Special Education Paraprofessionals will be assigned each school year based on student and district needs. Building location, classroom assignment and report times may change.

Grant-funded positions are evaluated each year and are contingent on available funding.

Contract Hours:9-month; 28-hours per week(7-hours Monday through Thursday)

Report Times: 8:30 am to 3:30 pm; Monday through Thursday for the 2026-2027 school year* (report times are based on the preschool schedule and are subject to change)

Salary: $15.73 starting hourly rate with annual step increases following the OAPSE negotiated agreement

Reports To: Building Principals and the Special EducationDirector

Evaluations: Performance is evaluated annually per the OAPSE negotiated agreement

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor student(s) individually, in small or large groups, in a variety of circumstances relating to the school environment
• Lifting, stabilizing, and assisting student(s) in accordance with IEP, 504, or medical action plans
• Assist with special care of students such as diaper changes, toileting, personal hygiene, seizures, recess, and lunch
• Ability to assist in a self-contained special education classroom
• Maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Provide leadership by enforcing pupil behavior set forth by the building principal
• Ensure that students are in a safe, secure environment at all times
• Employ a variety of strategies to manage student behavior and conflict
• Assist with classroom management duties, including small group instruction
• Attend CPI training and refresher courses as assigned.

Requirements

• Current favorable BCII (State) and FBI (Federal) background checks
• Rapback Enrollment
• Ohio Educational Aide Permit with ESEA endorsement
• Ohio Auditor of State Fraud Reporting and Training
• Negative drug screen
• Employees must follow all board policies, all state, and federal laws, and adhere to the Ohio Code of Ethics set up by the Ohio Department of Education. Subject to all applicable laws, essential job functions of this position include the employee being punctual and capable of completing all of the duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
