Governors State University is seeking to hire a Preschool Program Coordinator to direct the day-to-day operations of the Preschool Expansion and Childcare program to ensure enrollment and program compliance with DCFS, ISBE, and NAEYC standards.

Essential Responsibilities

60%

  • Provide ongoing day-to-day leadership and operational coordination for all preschool staff, assuring that all regulations are always enforced.
  • Create a staffing schedule and collaborate and communicate with other supervisors to arrange for substitutes for teaching staff for staff absences.
  • Lead teaching staff meetings. Provide reflective supervision to PreK teachers and staff, complete annual performance evaluations.
  • Covers classroom ratio as needed.
  • Coordinate with Governors State University (GovState) faculty to provide supervision of GovState students assigned to the PreK classrooms and ensure all paperwork is in place for volunteers and student workers.
  • Act as assistant director in the absence of the center director.
  • Is aware of and follows all Standard Emergency Operating Procedures for the center.
  • Perform all required documentation and reports and submit in a timely manner.
  • Create, review, and monitor teachers progress on professional development plans.
  • Monitor classrooms daily for compliance to program regulations and ensure curriculum fidelity.
  • Train and provide feedback to classroom staff on performance.
  • Review all lesson plans and child goals for completeness.
  • Review all lesson plans, individualized plans and child goals for completeness.

  • Take inquiries and applications for Family Development Center Programs. Follow up with families, including but not limited to their medical providers, to ensure all health, dental, referrals, and any additional paperwork is received. Contact and communicate with interested families via phone, email, online, in-person, or by other means as necessary, ensuring the program maintains a welcoming environment for families.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with an interdisciplinary team to screen, enroll, orient, and engage families in the PreK Programs. Ensure all DCFS, Health, ISBE, and DHS childcare paperwork is in place before enrollment.
  • Track classroom attendance daily, completing reports and turning them into the FSD.
  • Complete classroom head counts based on attendance and conduct calls to families not in attendance by 10:00 am daily, logging all communication.
  • Follow up on all absences daily and perform wellness checks in person with chronic absences within three (3) days with continual communication documentation and communicating chronic absences to the FSD.
  • Complete and maintain Family Strengths and Needs Assessments bi-annually with enrolled families, engaging and encouraging all families to create Family Goals.
  • Plan, present, and attend all parent events at the center, including evening and weekend meetings.
  • Implement ISBE and DCFS plans by providing transition information to families whose children are transitioning to their local school district for kindergarten.
  • Maintain, track, and follow up with all medical, dental, physicals, immunizations, and social service referrals.
  • Maintain detailed records and clear communication, partnering with families and classroom teachers to provide a holistic educational experience.
  • Create and maintain all assigned children and family files in a confidential and orderly manner.
  • Complete all data entry into the computerized database and tracking system by assigned deadlines.
  • Maintain and engage families in a Parent Committee, including diverse family perspectives and other leadership opportunities.
  • Other duties assigned.
Salary Range: $60,000.00 to $70,000.00.
This is a non-unionized position.

Required and Preferred QualificationsREQUIRED: COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPTS, WHICH INCLUDES THE EARNED DEGREE AND CONFERRED DATE MUST BE ATTACHED FOR CONSIDERATION OF THIS POSITION (See “Special instructions to applicants” section below).
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in child development, early childhood education, or a related field.
  2. Gateways Level 5 Early Childhood Credential or be able to obtain upon hire.
  3. DCFS Director Qualified
  4. Five years of experience as a preschool teacher.
  5. Three years of supervisory experience.
Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Illinois Professional Educator Licensed endorsed in early childhood education.
  • Master’s degree in early childhood education or related field.
  • Five years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of NAEYC Standards, Illinois State Board of Education Preschool for All Program
  • Implementation, Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies Gold, Conscious Discipline, Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale.
