Job summary

Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve seeks an Educational Assistant to support students with learning activities and day-to-day classroom tasks. The role involves assisting assigned students, reinforcing routines, transporting students as needed, and working with small groups under the supervision of a teacher.

The position requires meeting licensing requirements, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, strong communication, patience, and the capacity to improvise under stress.

Qualifications

• Meet Step-up to Quality & Preschool licensing requirements, including medical form and required professional development.
• Must maintain neat appearance, be punctual and dependable, communicate with students and staff.
• Education/Training: Ohio requires an Educational Aide permit or equivalent qualifications.
• Experience: Previous experience in special education preferred.

• Bathroom duties, etc. and other duties as assigned per the needs of the students
• Responsible for getting students to and from transportation

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge, Abilities and Skills – This person must meet Step-up to Quality & Preschool licensing requirements, including medical form and required professional development. Must be able to follow instructions and project positive reinforcement; work well with others; relate to and work well with students; communicate with students, staff and the public, both individually and in group situations; good verbal and written skills desired; be able to improvise in difficult and/or unusual situations and be able to function under stress. • Characteristics/Traits – Must maintain a neat, well-groomed appearance; have control over emotions; be self‑motivated, punctual, dependable in attendance, reliable in work habits, and be task oriented; exercise discretion and good judgment; be in good physical and mental health; be of good moral character; and be able to derive some degree of satisfaction interacting with students.
• Education/Training – The Ohio Department of Education requires a one-year Educational Aide permit. Applicants must also meet one State of Ohio requirement: Have passed the ParaPro Assessment Test, hold an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or have completed at least 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours at an accredited college or university.
• Experience – Previous experience in special education preferred.
