Responsibilities

  • Assist students in physical tasks as required (must lift at least fifty pounds).
  • Reinforce class rules when the teacher is absent and assist substitute teachers.
  • Listen to student recitations, readings and other curriculum tasks.
  • Work with small groups to reinforce materials/academics introduced by the teacher.
  • Reinforce behavior management techniques and accompany students on trips to the office or nurse.
  • Serve as resource person to the student evaluation team and discuss with colleagues as needed.
  • Responsible for getting students to and from transportation.

Primary Duties:

Assist student(s) to whom assigned in physical tasks as required (must be able to lift at least fifty pounds); reinforce class rules when teacher is absent; assist substitute teacher; listen to student recitations, readings and other curriculum tasks; work with small groups to reinforce materials/academics initially introduced by the teacher; reinforce behavior management techniques; accompany student(s) when trips to the office and/or school nurse are necessary; and serve as resource person, as requested, to the student evaluation team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned. Bathroom duties, etc. and other duties as assigned per the needs of the students. Responsible for getting students to and from transportation.

Education/Training

The Ohio Department of Education requires a one-year Educational Aide permit. Applicants must also meet one State of Ohio requirement: Have passed the ParaPro Assessment Test, hold an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, or have completed at least 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours at an accredited college or university.
