Job summary

Aberdeen School District No. 5 is seeking a paraeducator to support teachers and students. The role involves assisting with classroom activities, supervising students during recess and lunch, and helping prepare materials for lessons.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent and may be required to complete district competency requirements and background checks. CPR/First aid training may be requested, and hours are 6.75 per day, 172 days per year.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent plus one of AA degree / 72 college credits / paraeducator test.
• Proficient in basic spelling, math and grammar.
• Experience with students is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitors student progress and shares observations with teachers, staff and parent/guardians; assists with student work and program documentation.
• Assist teacher in daily management, organization, monitoring and safety of children; supervise recess and lunch periods, field trips, and arrivals/departures.
• Collect and prepare instructional materials; assemble worksheets, lessons and supplies; correct worksheets and assignments.
• Supervise individuals and small groups in learning activities; tutor and monitor student activities in class and special sessions.
• Monitor student behavior and progress; participate in parent-teacher conferences if needed; assist with health and safety tasks.
