Job summary

YMCA of Catawba Valley is seeking a Preschool Lead Teacher to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities, supervise the preschool program, and communicate with families. The role includes mentoring Assistant Teachers, promoting safety, and upholding YMCA values within a play-based education setting.

The position requires prior child care experience, education in early childhood, and a commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive classroom environment for young learners.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Two years of college in early childhood education is preferred.
• Completion of safety trainings on hire and annually is required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for large and small groups.
• Follow age-based curriculum activities and adapt based on each child’s abilities.
• Develop and maintain an effective system of classroom behavior management.
• Complete progress reports and developmental assessments as scheduled.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding activities, progress, and behavior concerns.
• Lead check-in and check-out procedures.
• Ensure supervision, safety and care of children in the preschool area.
• Provide mentoring and coaching to Assistant Teachers.
• Promote and implement YMCA mission and values.
